About this Event

Planning for college can cause angst and confusion for both parents and students. The onslaught of information – and misinformation – can be overwhelming.

Join us for an interactive panel discussion to learn what you need to know about the college admissions process. There will be ample time for questions, and light refreshments will be served.

Panelists:

Emily Haft Bloom, Certified College Advisor (UCLA), Athena College Advisors LLC

Emily has been helping students and their families prepare for and navigate the admissions process for more than a decade. She works closely with students to develop a college list that makes sense, helps her students create a profile that stands out, and assures all the pieces of the process are completed properly, effectively and in a timely fashion. Emily is an Associate Member of Independent Educational Consultants Association and Member of National Association for College Admission Counseling Member. She has a BA from Union College and a Certificate in College Counseling from UCLA.

Charlie O’Hearn, Founder and CEO, Summit Educational Group

Charlie is the founder of Summit Educational Group, a 1:1 test prep tutoring company that has been serving students, families, and schools in New York, Connecticut, and Massachusetts for more than 30 years. A graduate of Yale University, Charlie is an expert in the field of tutoring and test preparation. He has written a number of highly regarded test preparation books, and is a frequent speaker and panelist at education conferences and forums around the country.

Bill Smith, Managing Director, ScholarFITS LLC

For 8 years Bill worked with colleges to program their financial aid policies into online financial aid estimators known as Net Price Calculators (NPCs). As Bill worked with more and more colleges he became an expert at calculating need: determining the EFC (Expected Family Contribution) using both the FAFSA and the CSS Profile methodologies. He also became an expert in the process colleges use to determine merit and need based aid, and the mix of gift aid, loans, and work-study. Bill has spoken on financial aid issues at educational forums and conferences, and at schools. He has a BA from Williams College, an MBA from Northwestern University, and a Certificate in College Counseling from UCLA.
